Homework is given each night, with the exception of Friday. I do not assign homework on the evenings of HSA meetings or school programs. Limited homework may be assigned during special testing weeks. Please check your child's agenda and blue Take Home Folder. There will be homework in Spelling, Reading and Math each evening, unless otherwise noted.
Why assign homework?
Homework is a valuable tool to help students make the most of their experience in school and move information from short term memory to long term memory. Homework reinforces what was learned in class and prepares students for upcoming lessons. More importantly, it teaches responsibility and proper study habits.
Spelling -Words will be written in student's agenda each Monday. Homework is as follows:
Monday-write words 5x each
Tuesday-write words in ABC order 3x each
Wednesday-generate complete sentences using the spelling word correctly in context. Sentences should have 6-7 words
Thursday-study for test on Friday
Math-There will be a worksheet supporting the skill/concept taught that day. Work on addition/subtraction fact fluency with your child to achieve mastery.
Reading-Read for 20+ minutes each night and complete the Reading Log. PARENTS: Please record the number of minutes read and SIGN THE LOG!
There will be occasional tests to study for in Religion, Science and Social Studies. These will be noted in your child's agenda.
